THE LEMONADE SOCIETY

Now playing The Weeknd- Too late

There's a saying that goes "a woman's hair is her crown."

My hair journey has been such an exciting one so far. I've had it natural, permed, low, teeny weeny, dyed...I can go on.

I cut my hair and started my natural hair journey in 2014. I grew it to a really cool length and volume. My hardwork didn't go unnoticed- people loved my hair, they'd always praise it and stare when I put it in  different hairstyles. It wasn't all great because a lot of other people would always assume I was a Jehovah's witness. They'd assue I was "humble" and "good" simply because of my hair. It was always funny to me but I understood from a very early age how Nigerian's judge or conclude on a person's character simply because of their hair! Extremely weird flex but okay. Other than that I absolutely loved my hair. I didn't care that my mum didn't like it and would always suggest I relax it any chance she got.  I was doing with my hair what I wanted and I loved it.

Here's something to keep in mind about me- I'm going to get bored. And I did get bored, after the initial excitement of your hair getting to a particular stages,  the low cut phase, to the teeny weeny afro phase (twa), to the bun phase and so on and so forth, reality sets in. Then it starts feeling like work; putting your hair in twists before bed to avoid shrinkage, putting it in twists to wash it so it doesn't tangle, DETANGLING!! Detangling your hair before braiding it or creating any hairstyle... I got bored fast! And after three years being natural, I cut it.

Now for me, cutting my hair was not a big deal...atall but others around me decided to drink panadol for what wasn't their headache. "Why did you do it" "What happened?" "Did you break up with your boyfriend?" This question made me laugh the most because everyone knew I was single as a pringle.  I understood it when I saw the meme. Anyways they were all surprised, mostly upset.  It made me wonder why? It's just hair and it will grow back. Some called me brave, daring...A theatre arts major who was terrified of being on stage was brave because she cut her hair? Wawu!😂

When I cut it, apart from the initial shock and people thinking I did it to get over a heartbreak. There were the snarky comments,  "you look like Johnny just come." (JJC) "you always look like you're suffering when you don't put on makeup." "Pls stop lying, you're not 21." When I dyed my hair, it became acceptable again. "You look like a baby!" People would stop to ask where I had cut my hair, where I dyed it, etc... It was cool for a while until my first "you look like a sex addict." Huh?????  I still wonder till today what a sex addict looks like and why that comment was said. I also overhead some boys tell their friend not to talk to me because I  was a runs babe.  Bruh all this because of hair.

I never used to get angry not because it didn't upset me but because why should I let anyone get to me to the point of changing my mood. There's a lot that comes with cutting one's hair, dealing with people's silly opinions about your hair. You'll look younger than your age, you'll see yourself better. I noticed things I didn't pay attention to before, like how small my head was.😯 Still trying to accept my small head. You'll realise that having a low cut isn't as low budget as you assumed, you'll learn to love yourself bare-without feeling like you need to put on makeup or dress elegantly in order to fit into society's standard of beauty. You'll just be.
At this point, What anyone has to say about me is their business not really mine. Also I am well aware of Nigerian people's obsession with hair. Like I said "weird flex but okay."
I'm considering going bald and I just know already that I'm going to get a few pity stares because bald head equals cancer in Nigeria. I Will definitely update you all on how that goes on my IG. Here

What stage is your hair in right now and do you love where it's at right now?

The month of January wasn’t super eventful. I was home most of it. I have been feeling a very strange wave of anxiety tho, its 2019 and this is the YEAR, right? The year to have everything figured out, the year to stop being scared, the year to push yourself and dare to actually chase

Having a good skin is important but it’s something that demands you consciously put an effort towards achieving. It’s one of my goals to have a skincare routine and follow through with it. So this January I bought some products and decided to try them out.
So far they have been

Hi everyone, thank you for taking out the time to read my blog. I feel like I’ve been on this journey of mine for a long time and that I’ve also been losing my way more often than I hoped since I started documenting it through my blog.
When I first started blogging, I did it because I felt I had gone through my fair share of challenges and had a clear perception of how to maneuver through
